We are thrilled to honor our Champions of Justice
Judith Mirkinson • Palestine Legal • Palestinian Youth Movement

  • Judith Mirkinson embodies the theme IN THE STREETS as a longtime activist for human rights and gender rights and a long-time member of the NLG-SF Bay Area chapter and a co-coordinator of the National NLG’s International Committee. She has served in many different capacities from President of the chapter, NLG national legal worker VP, anti-repression trainer, and GI organizer to political prisoner solidarity worker. She is currently President of the “Comfort Women” Justice Coalition and involved in international solidarity work around Haiti. An activist writer, she is the co-author of the 2019 NLG and Haiti Action Committee’s Human Rights Report on the Lasalin Massacre and most recently the author of “Listen to the Women,” a paper on historical denialism and the “comfort women.”
  • Palestine Legal – although a relatively young organization but what an impact! Palestine Legal has been fighting alongside the NLG-SF IN THE STREETS and in the courts since its founding in 2012. Palestine Legal is an independent organization dedicated to protecting the civil and constitutional rights of people in the US who speak out for Palestinian freedom. It is the only legal organization in the United States exclusively dedicated to supporting the movement for Palestinian rights. They have attorneys based in Chicago, New York City and the Bay Area, and their work spans all 50 states and Washington D.C. Palestine Legal work closely with several organizations, including the Center for Constitutional Rights, the National Lawyers Guild and others, to provide legal support to activists around the country.
  • Palestinian Youth Movement (“PYM”) is a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians in Palestine and in exile worldwide as a result of the ongoing Zionist colonization and occupation of our homeland. Our belonging to Palestine and our aspirations for justice and liberation motivate us to assume an active role as a young generation in our national struggle for the liberation of our homeland and people. Irrespective of our different political, cultural, and social backgrounds, we strive to revive a tradition of pluralistic commitment toward our cause to ensure a better future, characterized by freedom and justice on a social and political level, for ourselves and subsequent generations.
