"The People's Advocate: The Life & Times of Charles R. Garry" will be shown on March 10 at 4:45pm at UC Berkeley School of Law, Boalt Hall Room 110.
The documentary features Charles R. Garry—one of the most influential criminal defense attorneys of the 20th century who became a household name during the 1960s with his defense of revolutionary political icons like Huey Newton and Bobby Seale of the Black Panther Party.
The Executive Board of the NLGSF generally meets every first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm, alternating between the East Bay and San Francisco. Meetings are open to all Bay Area chapter members in good standing.
Our own Marc Van Der Hout was among 33 other attorneys from throughout the state to be named Attorney of the Year by California Lawyer for extraordinary achievements in 2007. The magazine specifically identifies the 21 years Marc put into defending Palestinian activists (the "LA8") who faced criminal charges and later deportation. All charges were finally dismissed in 2007.

- California Appellate Project Staff Attorney, former ACLU Northern California Board member and stand-up comedienne Aundre Herron.

New York, NY – Across the United States, in observance of the March 1-International Death Penalty Abolition Day, student members of the National Lawyers Guild are speaking out in opposition to the death penalty. Every year, law school chapters participate in the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) Student Day Against the Death Penalty by organizing panel discussions, debates, film screenings, and other events. There are currently more than 3000 people on death row.
