The outrage which arose from Ferguson made its way to the streets of hundreds of cities throughout the country in recent weeks and the most consistent presence in support of those who protested that decision was the National Lawyers Guild – from our Green Hatted Observers to our legal representation in the courts and jails.
Now is the time to support not only that work but our 77 year history of being the legal voice for dissidents in support of justice and equality.
Support Our Demonstrations Work
A team of volunteers with support from staff have supported thousands of activists every year on a shoestring budget through our demonstrations work. Contribute using the button below and support our legal observer program, our protest hotline, and our defense of protesters in court.
Support the Guild & Police Accountability
Our most critical fundraiser is our annual Testimonial Dinner. You can support the NLG by placing a message of support in our Testimonial Dinner Journal. In 2015, we will pay tribute to two Guild attorneys, Jim Chanin and John Burris. They have devoted their careers to ending police misconduct, including, perhaps most importantly, the advocacy of those who have been time and again victimized by an Oakland Police Department now under federal control. They have worked tirelessly and insisted that the constitutional rights of Oakland’s citizens, particularly its citizens of color, must be protected.
