Inspired by the CLEs that David Borgen and Doug Chermak have done over the past few years, a group of NLG members has started a meditation group specifically for progressive attorneys, legal workers, and law students. The group is meeting from 8:15-9:00 am on the first Wednesday of each month, and from 5:15-6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of the month, at Sundeen Salinas & Pyle, 428 13th Street, 8th Floor, in Oakland.
Here is a description of the type of meditation the group is practicing: “Mindfulness meditation is powerful for everyone, and especially lawyers. Among many benefits, it can promote sharper attention, focus, better listening, and balance. The practice that we’ll do together is essentially a practice of non-judgmental awareness where we work on cultivating and focusing our attention on our breaths and bodies. It is also often remarkably easier to do so when doing it together in community. Our group will offer the rare and precious chance to begin one or two days together each month with some lightly guided meditation practice and an opportunity to briefly connect and support each other before we begin our workdays.”
