Progressive Lawyering Day 2012: Beyond the Occupation

The National Lawyers Guild San Francisco Bay Area Chapter will be hosting our 44th annual Progressive Lawyering Day this fall at UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) with keynote speaker and activist attorney Walter Riley.

PLD is a day-long, community event organized by law students across the Bay Area involved in the NLG and political activism. CLE credit will be available to attorneys.

Fundraising Committee Meeting

We need your energy and creativity to help keep the chapter strong! Join our fundraising committee and do your part to support the National Lawyers Guild. The committee tries to meet monthly - and in September we will meet Wednesday, September 19th at 6:15 PM in San Francisco.

Progressive Lawyering Day Organizing Meeting

Law students: Help organize Progressive Lawyering Day. The date is fast approaching, and it will be the 44th year that law students, lawyers, legal workers and community-members come together to talk about law, politics and activism. There is a lot still to do to prepare for the big day and plenty of opportunities to get involved. Join us Monday, September 17th at 6 PM, Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, 1805 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland.

Know Your Rights & Legal Observer Training

September 11, 2012

Please join NLG for a combined Know Your Rights and Legal Observer Training from 6-9pm on Tuesday, September 11th, Room 1001 at UC Davis School of Law King Hall 400 Mrak Hall Drive. This is an opportunity to get NLG Legal Observer certified, review your rights for interactions with police, and connect with other activists in the valley (including details on a shut down Monsanto action planned for Monday, September 16th). Pizza Served! More information to come on parking.

Mentorship Meeting

September 11, 2012

The mentorship committee has overseen the most successful mentorship program for progressive law students and throws a great cocktail party for NLG members every year. Now, the committee is broadening its work to focus on fostering the next generation of progressive lawyers and legal workers. Join us in this important work!

The next meeting is Tuesday, September 11 at 6 pm in San Francisco.

NLG Organizing Meeting (Sacramento)

August 22, 2012

Build the Guild in Sacramento! Join us for a discussion/disorientation about the National Lawyers Guild and help organize a progressive, legal presence in the Sacramento Area and revive the student chapter at McGeorge. We will be meeting August 22, 6 PM at the Sol Collective, 2574 21st Street in Sacramento. Refreshments provided.

Due to scheduling conflicts, we are moving the meeting originally planned for August 14th. We will update the website when the new date is set.

We have had an exciting summer discussing the focus, goals and role of the Mentorship Committee and would greatly benefit by having everyone attend the August meeting as we continue the discussion. We will also begin planning for our November Cocktail Party.

Undoing Injustice: A New Era in the Field of Employment Discrimination

Employment discrimination, like most other areas of law, is a rapidly evolving field of practice. This 1 hour CLE event will be an opportunity to learn about advances in employment discrimination law from a panel of experts dealing with issues of harassment and discrimination in the workplace on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, or national origin.
