Sacramento NLG Meeting

Legal observers monitor law enforcement at protests, demonstrations, and other political actions involving free speech and/or civil disobedience. Legal observers have collected evidence that has ultimately been helpful to activists facing false charges in criminal court or to activists suing police departments.

NextGen/Mentorship Committee Meeting

The NextGen Committee, formerly the Mentorship Committee, has overseen the most successful mentorship program for progressive law students and throws a great cocktail party for NLG members every year. Now, the committee is broadening its work to focus on fostering the next generation of progressive lawyers and legal workers. Join us in this important work!

The next meeting is Monday, March 18 at 6 pm in San Francisco.

Collateral Damage: Sex Workers and the Anti-Trafficking Campaigns

The GGU chapter of the NLG welcomes students and faculty to a presentation on the dangerous consequences of mainstream anti-human trafficking campaigns and Prop 35. This panel is a "second opinion" in response to Human Trafficing-Issues Facing the Bay Area panel hosted by the ACLU and other orgs. Long-time sex work activist Carol Leigh will screen a clip from her documentary "Collateral Damage: Sex Workers and the Anti-Trafficking Campaigns," followed by a panel conversation between Leigh and adjunct professor Cynthia Chandler and a question/answer session. Snacks will be provided!

NLG Sacramento Valley Meeting

National Lawyers Guild members in Sacramento, Davis, and areas nearby, are invited to attend an organizing meeting on Thursday, February 28, 5:30 PM at Beeson, Tayer & Bodine, 520 Capitol Mall, Suite 300 in Sacramento. Among other things, we will discuss building the pool of mentors in the area, an future trainings for legal observers and protest law.

NLG Hastings Day Against the Death Penalty Film Screening

3,146 people are still on death row. The situation is gradually improving, but the need for action has never been more urgent. Every year on this day, we, as law students, reflect on our highest, most sacred humanist values, and wonder whether they are consistent with maintaining capital punishment. Please join us in the struggle to do away with this ineffective method of deterring crime by attending a film screening and panel discussion.
