Heidi Boghosian: Spying on Democracy

The National Lawyers Guild Berkeley Law Chapter presents a lunchtime discussion with Heidi Boghosian, Executive Director of the National Lawyers Guild, on Wednesday, October 2nd 12:45pm to 1:45pm in the Goldberg Room at 297 Simon Hall, UC Berkeley School of Law. Heidi Boghosian will be discussing her her new book Spying on Democracy: Government Surveillance, Corporate Power, and Public Resistance.

NLG Meditation Group

Inspired by the CLEs that David Borgen and Doug Chermak have done over the past few years, a group of NLG members has started a meditation group specifically for progressive attorneys, legal workers, and law students. The group is meeting from 8:15-9:00 am on the first Wednesday of each month, and from 12:15-1:00 pm on the third Wednesday of the month, at Sundeen Salinas & Pyle, 428 13th Street, 8th Floor, in Oakland.

NextGen Committee Meeting

The NextGen Committee, formerly the Mentorship Committee, has overseen the most successful mentorship program for progressive law students and throws a great cocktail party for NLG members every year. Now, the committee is broadening its work to focus on fostering the next generation of progressive lawyers and legal workers. Join us in this important work!

The next meeting is Thursday, September 26, 6 p.m. at Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, 180 Sutter Street, Fifth Floor in San Francisco.

Legal Observer Training

When all eyes are on protesters whose eyes are watching the police? YOURS! Become a Legal Observer and assist at protests, rallies, and other events to inform protestors of their rights, monitor the policing of protests and arrests, and act as a deterrent to police misbehavior.

Join the GGU student chapter THURSDAY September 26th from 11:30-1pm in ROOM 3216.

While this event is BYOL (bring your own lunch), everyone trained will receive an AWESOME NEON GREEN HAT.

The Legal Observer® program is part of a comprehensive system of legal support designed to enable people to express their political views as fully as possible without unconstitutional disruption or interference by the police and with the fewest possible consequences from the criminal justice system. After completing the training, you will be able to provide legal observing to protests throughout the bay area.

Know Your Rights Training - UC Davis

Join the King Hall National Lawyers Guild for an additional offering of Know Your Rights Training. Empower yourself and others by recognizing and asserting your rights during engagements with law enforcement personnel at all levels. Find yourself a little less nervous the next time you see police lights in your rear view mirror! Initial KYRT is a prerequisite for participation in the King Hall Know Your Rights Clinic (information session sept12!!). This training is CRITICAL for activists and organizers of all stripes.
