WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS TRAINING? One year into the Trump regime has proven that vulnerable, immigrant communities need to be informed and empowered about their rights.
In educating immigrants, you will provide them with the tools needed to protect themselves against raids, abuse, exploitation and an oppressive immigration system.
WHO CAN BECOME A TRAINED ADVOCATE? Anyone who wants to get involved in empowering immigrant communities.Being an attorney is NOT required. Those with a background in organizing, fluency or proficiency in a second language, and public speaking are encouraged to attend.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED? Volunteer immigration attorneys will train interested community members on the broad range of rights afforded to EVERY individual, regardless of their immigration status. The training will go over developments in the Muslim Ban, DACA, Sanctuary Policies, ICE Raids, 4th Amendment, Labor Rights, and Public Benefits.
This training is not focused on legal advice, but rather how interested community members can effectively spread information to immigrant communities in culturally and linguistically accessible ways. Participants will be given access to a KYR manual that outlines the broad range of rights that ALL individuals have.
