Bay Area Military Law Panel

July 10, 2012

The next Bay Area Military Law Panel meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the American Friends Service Committee office at 65 Ninth Street, near Civic Center BART.

Program: Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) Presenter: Kit Anderton

IDES was designed to eliminate the duplicative and often confusing elements of the separate disability processes operated by VA and the military. IDES employs a model that attempts to streamline the exam process using VA protocols and a single disability rating to be issued by VA. Though IDES is supposed to shorten the original military evaluation process and make it more clear, problems have developed.

Kit Anderton has been a counselor with the Santa Cruz GI Rights Hotline for the past five years. He presented a program on IDES at the 2012 GI Rights Conference. He also wrote the attached article on the subject for the National Lawyers Guild, Military Law Task Force publication, On Watch.

After the program, there will be a discussion of active cases and issues.

New members are welcome. One hour of continuing education credit is available to attorneys.
