San Francisco Police Commission Meeting
SF City Hall, Room 400
1 Dr. Carlton Goodlet Place, San Francisco
October 5, 5:30 PM Sharp
The San Francisco Police Commission will be discussing the SFPD's relationship with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) at its upcoming meeting: Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
The Coalition for Safe San Francisco is asking organizations and community members to stand in solidarity with our demand that the commission: immediately vote to end SFPD involvement in FBI racial and religious profiling practices by "opting out" of the existing (secretly-signed) JTTF MOU contract.
The FBI JTTF MOU puts local police under FBI contro – which means blocked civilian oversight and loose guidelines that allow for profiling and surveillance of communities. Over the past decade since 9/11, abuses by the FBI JTTF have disproportionately impacted Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, South Asian communities. In contrast to loose FBI guidelines, both SF and CA have strong local policies and privacy laws that safeguard communities from discrimination and rights abuse. We want local police to honor their obligation to these policies to keep all communities safe from law enforcement targeting.
