Civil Rights Committee
The Civil Rights Committee was born of the chapter's Affirmative Action Committee's attempt to defeat the anti-affirmative action Proposition 209. The Committee's last big project was organizing against Proposition 54. We are currently looking at a variety of new projects and legal issues including racial balancing in the Berkeley Unified School District, admissions policies for the UC Schools, working with organizations fighting discrimination against Arab-Americans, figuring out how to get the Grouter decision (holding diversity is a state interest) incorporated into California law, and reconnecting with our old Prop 54 connection to see what they are up to.
